Health Faucet Standards
Does BIS have standards for health faucets? Its become an essential in urban toilets and I find other than a couple of brands most others are of quite poor quality and leak easily.

There are so many standards in India, how many are following- Is a big question mark.

The BIS must have standard for the item, but who has to enforce that ???

Like every product which is fast selling there is bound to be lower quality products as people have mentality to go for cheaper products. If we take care at the time of buying to ensure buy a reputed branded product then we can have a lasting product. But please note that all the brass / SS products will face a problem (i.e. will break down even if it is of reputed brand) if the water supply in your bathroom / toilet is of ground water or untreated water. Ground water / untreated water contains minerals and chemicals which corrodes metal parts and also leave behind a residue which over time forms scales over all sanitary equipments. Thus making them discoloured, brittle and susceptible to breakage. Currently there is no way to address this other than to use treated water or use non metallic faucets.

Yes plastic should be dispensed with totally as it is flimsy & weak . Mr. Shetty yes you are right . The LONGEVITY OF THE FAUCET SHOULD BE GAUGED MORE BY THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND TIMES USE IT PER DAY That is how the SELECTION OF PRODUCTS BE MADE in Railways or any public places to get the best service from what bought.

Yes. We need to check that they are made of heavy metal and not chrome painted plastic. And the spring should feel strong. Apart from the washing of the toilet, the most important use is to avoid use of toilet paper and the hand in personal hygiene.
