I dont think its illegal. Selling on a ecommerce website like amazon would attract 11% commission. Then there is a minimum 50 rupees courier charge. Which means a product that sells at 180 rupees would get charged around 19 rupees commission and 50 rupees courier charges. Now many companies that do not sell above MRP and sometimes even sell below MRP on Ecommerce Sites either keep huge margins or they have alot of middle men. A retailer gets around 30% for FMCG products then the stockist and super stockist would get around 10% depending on the product. Then there is tax component. So there only 40% they save if they directly sell on ecommerce website as a they have 40 % to give for Commission and shipping. Now what happens is sometimes some distributers or retailers try to sell a product online. So they have to work withing the 30% comission to earn something so they either add shipping charges(but the nobody likes shipping charges so they try to increase MRP to include shipping). See its only possible to get a better pricing online if products are sold directly by manufacturer. more

Yes, FSSAI certification is not to guarantee the price but the quality of a product. Please do not mix up both the issues and follow the steps as advised by Mr Daniel Is not the product available in the market? If yes, its better to get it locally purchased where you have the scope to verify it in all respects in your own eyes before purchasing, that too, at a time when there are enormous complaints coming in against the eCommerce companies. That will save your money, energy and time being spent on lodging complaints and their follow-up. more
Ms. Pallavi , this is blatant violation of MRP rules. Before paying or even now you can phone up the help line on printed on the label and raise your issue. Responsibility of FSSAI ends when they certify the product . This has to to be taken up at the consumer department if you don't get a suitable reply or response from the Help line number . more
