I was in India, Kolkata to be precise,Fortnight stay was enough for me.Amount of dirt and filth are beyond imagination. We were coughing all the time, went to several chemists/pharmacist,no pharmacists present in any of the shops, not allowed in advanced countries ,Customers coming and getting anti-biotics without prescription.Really worrying. more
I can get you antibiotics anywhere in India without doctor prescription . In several pharmacies in tamil Nadu , I have seen patients walk to pharmacies and tell their symptoms and get medicines. There is no consultation cost involved. If they don't improve they will consult a doctor after a few days.Drugs resistance of bugs in partly because of this. The conditions under which the drugs are stored , transported and the quality of the drugs which are not from reputed companies is also suspect. India is a jungle as far as medical practice is concerned and thats' why several doctors leave India. The doctors also put degrees like MRSH. FCCP etc which are no accredited. In addition 75% of rural areas are severd by quacks. more
I agree with the views of Mr Chakrabarti about Kolkata. I think people living in Kolkata accept the conditions probably thinking that there is no way to escape and it is their fate. I was also went to Kolkata recently and met few of my friends on different occasions. They all talk about many interesting subjects but hardly about the mess in which they all live. more
