Holi Gujhiya

Jaggery is used in Gujhiya. Sulphur Dioxide is commonly used in the processing of jaggery - the black syrup is converted into the dark yellow hard mass. More the Sulphur Dioxide used, brighter the colour. Food Safety Regulations does not permit more than 70 ppm of sulphur dioxide; in the festive times of Holi, this number increases to as high as 350 ppm - 1,500 ppm. This is detrimental to health so buy gujhiya from reputed vendors only. more

Yes, the definition of "reputed vendor" becomes somewhat dubious and questionable unless the determining factors are defined precisely and intelligible for the layman. Would names like Haldiram, Bikanerwalla, Evergreen, Gopala find themselves in the list of "reputed" vendors, merely because they are popular as against the shop around the corner from which you've been buying products for the past umpteen years? One would find this kind of classification as rather "subjective" ! more
Reputed vendors are those who do business to serve the society and not for earning profit. That is the way our earstwhile business men such as Birla, Tata, Bata and Dhakuria did business. Since the business concept of today is to increase the bottom line there is hardly any reputed business community exists today. more
The definition of reputed vendors is questionable as in the times of festivals they also resort to buy from many suppliers and seeing the huge demand they resort to all these methods which are health hazard.Buyers should curtail their buying for their own health and others also since if the buyers do not restrict their quantum's this thing of using all such items jaggery, khoya ,milk can not be stopped. more
Thanks - I was not aware. more
