Nidhi - Here are few ideas that I try with my kids. It might not click always but if you try combination of these for 3-4 days it usually works. 1. Rub Vicks on the feet and have the kids sleep with warm socks on. 2. Boil milk with pinch of turmeric + nutmeg. Kids might not like the taste but if you can somehow feed them it helps. 3. Do try some ayurvedic cough medicines like Madhuvanni, Honitus 4. Turn on the Vicks vaporizer/humidifier during the night time 5. Johnson's have soothing vapor bath which tend to comforts the kids with cold. more

Just put the leaves in a small mortar & pestle , add a few drops of water (enough to make 1/2 ~ 1 teaspoon full of extract) & grind them. Sugar / honey & black pepper (if reqd) can then be added. Mix these in the mortar itself. The resulting extract (liquid part) may be given to the kid. more

Thanks Ajit. How do you get the extract? Should I boil the leaves in water to half the quantity? more

Extract of 2~3 tulsi leaves, given 2~3 times a day, often worked for my kid when she was around 3 yrs of age. Though it is time taking (we had to religiously follow this dosage for about 15 days). A small pinch of ground black pepper if added, is definitely a plus (if the kid can tolerate it). You may add a bit of sugar or honey if the kid doesn't like the plain extract. However in case the symptoms appear to be getting worse, despite the home remedy, it is best to consult a paediatrician.. more
