Homestays Standards
I dont know whether this has been taken up already but BIS needs to set standards for homestay industry. Companies like Oyo, Airbnb are currently doing whatever they like, multiple people just in my family have been to places that are unsafe, food unhygenic and several other issues.
The circle must take the lead and submit to the Govt the standards for homestay, focus be on safe stay and hygiene.
Dont get me wrong, these stays can be very good esp in parts of India where there are no decent hotels and that 80% of India. A good bit of it is beautiful and if the services were standardised, consumers will come. more

Ultimately financial paying capacity will decide your standard.There is a saying "Water finds its level" and a man will spend accordingly.If you want to improve standard the first and foremost thing is reduce the population to a reasonable level say atleast what it was during 80's.See in USA most of the so called poor labor class,they also have better house,car etc. more

Plus if anyone is actually bent on finding a fault he she will do it -@ the flimsiest of excuses ? no place can be that perfect specially a homestay - then they say so called one does not control anything ???????? if you wish to stay at someones home you too need to adjust too? more

No 2 homes on earth can be the exact same ? If peoples expectations are so high - better go to a hotel then and be prepared to pay hefty prices too ? everyone will do the best by default as in his/ her home . even 5 stars rarely can provide what exactly a specific human being requires at mind blowing prices at that ? more

Home stay is just a small time business by the people in rural India and small towns. The people have been encouraged to provide these services as more and more people are touring Indian hinterlands. It also provides respite to the tourists / travelers who are looking for a shelter to spend the night at a place where they decide to rest. One cannot expect standards here as it is not a regular business and enforcing standards on these home owners will just put them off and they will close down or will jack up the prices. The losers will be the travelers and the tourists. One can always visit and check these homestays before finalizing to ensure that it meets their requirements. Never book in advance unless you know the place. more
