Honor warranties globally

I have experienced time and again that if u buy electronic items like laptop, tablet, mobile phone etc abroad in USA or europe and bring to India you get price advantage but those same companies honour the warranties.

Can consumer affairs dept make new rules such as any global multinational operating in India must be required to honor warranties for products made by the same company in any part of the world.

A consultant business person travels with a dell laptop or apple iphone to India and if it goes bad they ought to be able to get warranty service at the local center...

How do we take this forward? more
Equally important would be to put pressure on our indigenous manufacturers also to honour warranties.....Foreign manufacturers yet behave decently...... more
All such OEMs provide an option for Worldwide service and support. One can avail at an extra cost. This is an open market. Why should the government regulate it? If as a default option, the OEM has to provide such warranty, the insurance cost for such warranty may come down for global travelers, but will increase for those who use it one country only. This is like robbing the poor and giving to the rich. I am sure your worldwide travel comes with its own benefits which is not available for those who do not travel. Finally, you want the lower price of purchasing in one country and the expensive service in another. Remember no service is free and US companies have service partners in India, who have to pay their employees salaries as well. If you are working for any service company, you are indeed benefiting from such a model. So please do not complain. more
Mr. Ajay Shah, you have brought up a very valid point - I support you in this. more
