Hotel bills after GST in Mumbai
In Mumbai the hotels were producing the bill of the eatables which was including the taxes earlier ( Before 30th June). Suppose the cost of the Idli plate is Rs 60 this was including all the taxes before June 30. (I am talking about the smaller hotels & not star hotels) Now as per the GST the tax is reduced by 2% accordingly the rate should be slightly cheaper or the same as that of earlier including the taxes. However, after July 1st, they are mentioning the same cost of Rs 60 with an additional charge of the GST of 18%, which is 10.80 more. Now the charges of Idli plate is 70.80 in the same hotel.
However in south earlier as well as today they display the rate + tax separately and we are able to make out the difference. more

Mr. Govindaraj kindly open the resource post sent by the "Dept. of Consumer Affairs (Government of India) (Government Of India) posted a Resource" . It has 2 attachments that will give a clear picture . The hotels cant charge tax on tax , that is the whole concept of the Government to stop corruption. For a small hotel,i dont feel the turnover would not exceed 75 Lacs nd most of the places would be falling under Composition tax category,As per GST the taxes for the manufacturer are 2% and Trader are 1%,i wonder where does the rate of 18% coming from. If they are charging 18%,are they falling under Normal GST Scheme. Having said that the taxes collected in the name of GST are they being paid to government,a big ?. Government should very clearly come out with directives for such establishment and ensure they are not taking citizens for a ride. more

This is the initial phase of introduction of a new system of taxing which is supposed to make things easy for the public as well as the Government in the long run . Firstly , the commercial taxes check posts will be done away with . A big dragon that collects illegal money . The traffic at check posts will be smooth from now on . But still we the public like to be clear about what our money is paid for . more
