Twenty five jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were slaughtered in one of the deadliest attacks by Maoist rebels on Monday when around 300400 heavily armed insurgents ambushed and outgunned 99 troopers deployed to help with the construction of a road through their stronghold of Sukma in Chhattisgarh. This was one of three biggest attacks on security forces in seven years, and the second in the last one-and-a-half months. In 2013, 27 people, including Co ngress leaders V C Shukla, Mahendra Karma and Nand Kumar Patel, were killed in an ambush in Darbha valley . On March 11this year, 12 CRPF men of a road opening party were ambushed by heavily armed Maoists in Sukma, barely 20km from Monday's attack site.
The time has come for Government to use Army to root out the Naxalite problem for ever. How many more lives will be sacrificed at the Naxal Alter. Army has been used effectively to control Riots in Mumbai in 1966 and at many other places in our country. Army is there to protect the citizens from the enemies and Naxals are enemies. more
