How power dept officials are bottleneck to EVs in India

This is first hand case study of a family member in Bangalore who bought an EV. They needed to upgrade their power connection to charge the EV.

Power dept people came and said it will cost 35,000 to upgrade the connection and he should hire this contractor.

Contractor after work said Sir, they let me keep only 5,000 and I have to give them the 30,000 as their commission.

Depending on where you go in India, you will be paying some cut, may be somewhere 15000, somewhere 50,000.

So for EV cars to sell in India, the power department corruption has to end first.

Who will take that lead?? more

Electricity distribution is faced with a lot of issues even today. Large parts of India face load-shedding and the privilege of 24x7 power is still elusive to most people in India. Amidst this, we are trying to bring in EVs (which actually displace consumption of fossil fuel from the cities/towns to the power plants). With growing green power, this is expected to contribute to lower fossil fuel consumption over decades to come. Many see the current EV technology as transient and would rather wait for sodium cell or better lithium technology powered EV or a different technology like Hydrogen. In all this, it is strange to see someone asking for a bribe for a power outlet. While there is a cost for drawing the cable and the charging point, the sums indicated are not reflective of that rationale. We need vehicle companies, power companies and the government to increase awareness about the EV infrastructure. They should indicate costs and charges transparently to avoid any agency/individuals to take bribes to do it. Is this something which is not permitted by law that someone is asking fancy amounts as bribes? Why should you pay bribes and not fight it out before higher authorities? more
To see the change be the change! Smart phones aren't for smart people do ur own research to find ways to be On/ Off Grid n help d country by generating ur own power buying an EV is easy but running it on ur own is true n realtime savings - makes more sense n Smart ppl r doing it in real world! - Think!!! more
Why to involve power department in first case ??? did they wanted to change their connection to commercial or industrial to charge an EV , i have attended seminars and exhibition's and conferences , we can just connect to our normal connection and charge our vehicle in 8 hrs times from 0-100% during night and for fast charging we need a power station ( mostly commercial for public charging), transformers and other things but that are for commercial charging stations on main roads as sanctioned by power ministry . Not sure what they did at their homes ??. otherwise 5kwh sanctioned load is enough and that too one does not need to go to power department the digital meters record MDI per month and charge rs 50/- (or as per state policy per month on additional load not required if a person is paying for ) . Ignorance Is Bliss AND LEADS O FLEECING BY CORRUPT OFFICIALS . more
I am using the same connection in home to charge my EV nothing harm only Units consumed is high , misinfo by some TOUTS for money more
