How Restaurants not passing GST cut to consumer
This is from Ahmedabad. Mcdonalds - world renowned food chain has kept the selling price the same after gst reduced from 18% to 5% . The reduction in gst instead of being passed to consumer is being taken by franchisee company hardcastle as profit.

What hell the government is doing in this regard? The ministers are never tired of making big claims of success but by practice they are not even even to protect the consumers from the greedy clutches of the dishonest traders. The government should come forward to explain its intention in bringing down the applicable GST slab from 18% to 5% on restaurant bills. Was it to inflate further the profits of the restaurants or to give some kind of relief to the consumers? Let Jeitly clarify it. more

The issue is not clear. Are you suggesting the keeping end price to consumer same as earlier implies profiteering? At the same time, you are not saying anything why government imposed a GST of 18% in the first instance. Government has imposed GST of 28% and even more on some items but no voice is being raised anywhere about this usurious taxation. more

McDonald has rightly charged GST at 5 % rate but at enhanced price of product which can not be controlled by government. In case they are charging more for packaged product they can be penalised. Just try to purchase packed product whether it chips, cookies, drinking water or soft drink and then compare with new and old rates. more

The Govt. should simply arrest such shop owners. One way when you look at it, the Govt. also does not want to loose the income reduction. Take for exampple, toll fees. Where is the necessity to keep on increasing? Every toll booth should display the validity date without exception. But they simpply loot. Then why a trader will not do? The main culprit is the Govt. itself. more
