How Sellers create fake reviews on eCommerce sites

There is an article in Times news paper today on a survey by localcircles on how much people are trusting online reviews. As I am reading about this a bit more, one of your posts I found to be quite insightful:

How some sellers create fake reviews on eCommerce sites:

Step 1. Bad sellers create a seller account on different online shopping portal like Flipkart, Amazon etc.

Step 2. They sell ordinary products using high quality images and description.

Step 3. They order their own products using different addresses and account details.

Step 4. They really buy their own products to qualify as a verified buyer.

Step 5. Then they write fake reviews to make people fool online.

Step 6. They are not writing single type fake reviews for a particular product, they write different kinds of fake reviews that buyers like you can’t figure out the fake one.

Step 7. All the fake reviews not say that the product is good quality and genuine. 10 to 20 percent of them are saying a little different that people found the product is actually good.

We should stay careful and make an informed decision when buying online. more

Despite large number of instances of supplying of goods of inferior quality through these eCommerce Companies, their progress is unabated as we consumers feel happiness on being cheated because of our own foolish decision. Otherwise, looking to the increasing trend of complaints their against, a time should have come by now forcing them to close down. more
It should not be confined to "stay careful". There should be review and monitoring by the government for the benefit of the consumer. more
When we opened the door for Globalisation and liberalisation, we should be very careful of being cheated by looters like this. Our judiciary is very week, so any one can take us for a ride. The udf Goverment has introduced all policies very carefully and slowly and that was why the people were not affected much during the process. Now the main concern of the Government is to safeguard the Multi billion companies and not the common man. Take every sector like Insurance companies, Payment companies, Banks, every one is looting us. With every ticket reserved in railways, a small amount is going to the Insurance companies. Has any one thought about the huge amount they get in each and every day. more
This has nothing to do with globalisation. It's our inner monitoring authorities which lack the teeth and willingness to impose stringent laws. more
I can expect anything from these unscrupulous business community just to enter the market and cheat consumers. That is why I do not treat them as "consumers" that politicians and some of bureaucrats would like to call them as. more
sir, i am not taking sides - but the leading e commerce sites don't indulge in this kind of fake reviews, as we can find many adverse reviews among a handful of reviews.

you will be surprised to know, the tv reality show stars buy up SIMs in hundreds for single use, just to vote for themselves ! so, this happens fairly at every level - when you enact a law, there is always a person to find a loophole in it. haha more
If you want to get fake or defective or reconditioned or second hand products at an attractively cheap rate, and in the bargain expose yourself to a barrage of solicitations for purchases through e-mails and messages from all strange sources then please go in for online shopping ... I made this mistake twice and still suffer for that... I failed to understand that no trader worth his salt shall be philanthropic by subsidising my purchases.. and will commit harakiri by selling things at less than market price.. And I also did not understand that I deserve to get only what I pay for... there is no free lunch... Now I am wiser and control my urges to make fantastic purchases at 50%+ discounts... either the pricing is fake or the product is... more
