Sewerage system for thane is getting ready for 100% coverage. At present 2 sewage treatment plants are ready.Rest have to be constructed. To get lands in city is big problem.Transfer of land takes time and hence project completion delays. Then laying of sewer lines in brown field is major issue.Open cut is becoming impossible. We need to adopt trench less technology for timely completion of projects. But trench less is expensive.Time has come to spent for technology. Recently for few kilometres we have started trench less. There is need for better international agencies who could take up such jobs in brown field.i am sure all Indian cities face similar problem. Now with commissioning of two plants in thane there is great change seen in underground water and Creek water quality is changes as discharges of fresh water is 75 mld. Eden aquatic life and migratory birds can be seen.Cirizens will get benefit and city will see big change in coming time.Only few issues if addressed good results can come soon.I as an Engineer can help other municipalities in developing sewerage systems and toilets for slums. more
In thane we have 20000 toilets to cater 1 million population staying in slums.Though municipality constructed decent toilets. They are not being maintained properly by appointed agencies as well as by ngo's. Reason is mentality of people is not to pay for use and political fraternity wants to pro ide this facility free. There is no sense of belonging to use.Nobody feels it's made for me and I should use properly. There is need to change mind set and strict enforcement by authorities. more
