how to patent a website name and a company name

Please help to find the legally correct answer to how to patent a website name and a company name which is not in existence now. It may be a future plan. Could name be patented before? more

I guess its better to trademark or get a copyright registered and then while applying for name approval with MCA (ministry of corp affairs) refer to that trademark/copyright more

Debdip's advise is apt. Further, normally you could only get a copyright on a name. The company should be in existence in order to apply for the trademark. But if the question is for the website domain, then simply register the domain name as advised by Anil ji. As long as you hold that domain, nobody would be able to use it. However, keep in mind there are various extensions like .com; .biz; etc available. Since .com is most preffered its best to register the name with .com. more

Hi - true but taking a domain name cannot prevent others from procuring similar domain name with little tweak in spelling and those can be deceptively similar. A trademark/copyright will be appropriate as there is a unique domain name or company name or brand which needs to be protected - patent covers mainly inventions. The trademark can be registered with any IPR lawyer along with taglines/etc. more

you can buy the domain from godaddy.com or many more service provider companies available here more
