Hygiene Standards for Canteens

So many of the canteens of both central govt and delhi govt are not kept clean and unhygienic esp if you go to their kitchen.

FSSAI should come up with mandatory standards for canteens. A lot of people eat 1-2 meals in these canteens and no one seems to be bothered about compliance. more

The local municipal authorities must be addressed detailing the complaint .They are duty bound to check officially .Please lodge it if you have seen it. more
Why we require fssai everywhere? Every Govt. office Canteen (whether Central/State/PSE-PSU) is to be run by a well set of laid down rules and procedures. There has to be a designated Officer-in-Charge (and a Canteen Managing Committee - for bigger canteens with participation from management as also staff/workers side). Responsibility should be fixed on them for any deviation from the laid down standards from the department as well as laws of the country. more
These things come under food inspector who issues license after verification. more
There is no point in blaming the canteen walas till we ourselves continue to be dirty and little bothered about cleanliness & hygiene. Its an universal truth that majority of the Indians are prone towards indulging in dirtiness and are bothered little for cleanliness & hygiene. My statement may hurt many of our members but its a truth. Cleanliness does not depend on the status of an individual but the culture & the environment in which one is grown up. I continue to see in my city apart from other cities & towns that many of the so called gentle and educated people driving a high variant car simply slow down the cars, open the door thereof and spit on the streets, stop the car on the road sides and urinate in open on a vacant place/walls even without bothering for the passers by, particularly, the women folk. Though in such cases the government and the local bodies are largely responsible for not providing the required facilities and initiating punitive actions against such people, the individuals indulging in vulgarity and spreading dirtiness can't be & should not be spared under any circumstances and/or any excuses. Probably we will require to wait for another 70 years or so that all of our people behave responsibly in maintaining cleanliness and gathering courage to vehemently oppose any acts of dirtiness in public by any one. Till then we will have to continue to tirelessly discuss and make endless suggestions thereon knowingly that the highly corrupted authorities and local bodies' people will not sincerely initiate any proactive action towards the issue. more
In our country hygiene is not followed in all places and people behave in a manner convenient to them. Nobody wants to put rubbish or waste in waste bins or collectors but simply throw them in open street. In eateries the cleanliness is very bad. The hotels, restaurants and canteens do not follow safe norms for cleanliness. Fist wash plates in dirty water or in same tube repetitively , do not store food in goo and clean containers, do not adhere to standard norms for cleanliness. The tables are repetitively cleaned by a soiled cloth for any number of time. The utensils in which the food is served to clients are bad and not cleaned. The vegetables are cut in unhygienic condition and the kitchen stinks. The food is cooked and kept in places with unclean condition. The cook and the helpers do not wear neat dress but are very shabby. Even in big hotels where the kitchen is out of place for customers is in bad shape. It is high time that the FSSAI institutes norms and practices for keeping good hygienic condition. more
You are right-it -the hygiene is both sides. In late 80 on wards they went on classifying it.The end result is this. more
