Identify carbide ripened banana mango tomato

calcium carbide ripened bananas have orange-yellow color, the stalk remains green despite the fruit being ripe and is hard on touch

Using calcium carbide on the ripened tomato will be soft throughout except for the stalk part centrally placed and run deep inside the tomato that will remain green and hard.

Artificially ripened mangoes have some parts hard and the extreme ends show different color from the rest of the mango fruit. more

Objection against Calcium Carbide , has stemmed out from the impurities present in calcium carbide - like calcium phosphide, calcium arsenide, calcium silicide, etc. which on reaction with water (moisture) releases harmful gaseous products like arsine, phosphine, silane, etc. all of which are harmful to living systems. But . too what extent? Will someone provide references for extent of such harmful chemicals in calcium carbide and their physiological effects - published research/investigation paper, published in a peer reviewed journal? more
Calcium Carbide is a dangerous and corrosive chemical. Carbide ripened fruits on consumption cause several harmful effects to human health. As discussed earlier, it has cancer causing properties and contains traces of arsenic and phosphorous hydride. The early symptoms of arsenic or phosphorous poisoning include vomiting diarrhea with or without blood, burning sensation of chest and abdomen, thirst, weakness, difficulty in swallowing, irritation or burning in the eyes and skin, permanent eye damage ulcers on the skin sore throat cough and shortness of breath. High exposure may cause a buildup of fluids in the lungs. It may cause stomach upset because the alkaline substance is an irritant that erodes the mucosal tissues in the stomach and disrupts intestinal functions. As calcium carbide imitates acetylene gas it may affect the neurological system by including prolonged hypoxia. Free radicals from carbide play a major role in the ageing process as well as in the onset of cancer, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and perhaps allergies. If pregnant women consume these artificially ripened fruits, it can cause miscarriages and developmental abnormalities if the child is born. more
it is not the first time that carbide is being used to ripe fruits but it is in use for decades now but there was no complain of causing diseases of the kind stated above. If the chemical is so dangerous to humane health, what our government is doing or is it simply a propaganda to create fear in the consumers' mind? more
Carbide ripened bananas spoil in two/three days. where as fresh or non treated bananas stay same for at least a week. The C.R. bananas have bad smell due to the chemical though they have shinning skin more
The hue and cry that people make regarding the use of CaC2 for artificial ripening of fruits is simply a mockery. It is true that the fruit sellers are cheating the public by making the un-ripeneed fruits as ripened by generating anthocyanins and flavons which occur in nature as yellow dyes . It is nothing more . Calcium carbide reacts immediately with water to produce acetylene and calcium hydroxide. Both are not poisonous compared to the cancerous sunset yellow which is added in bakery items to impart yellow color. The raw materials CaCO3 and carbon used to produce CaC2 (calcium carbide)are also totally harmless. The MNCs want to cheat the public by false propaganda so that they can collect maximum fruits as was in the case of coconut oil to manufacture soap. No plants can produce cholesterol and they propagated the message that coconut oil contains cholesterol more
Public awareness is not sufficient, but action against the use of Carbide is necessary. more
