Imported Product Standards
I shared this issue about Chinese Ethepon being widely used across India to artificially ripen fruits in food circle. see picture
FSSAI doesnt seem to have answers. Can BIS advise if they have a standard against which this product has complied?
Overall I agree with the idea that "Made in _____________" label for all products imported to India be made mandatory,
Then all products that could have implications on health and life of Indians must meet BIS standards. This is one.
For all other products that are not a health hazard, they should mention the standard from country of origin.
Please give your views everyone. more

The artificial ripening and irrigation with highly contaminated water should be totally banned and punishable with highest penalty and imprisonment so as to eradicate it. Similarly sale of fictitious medicines and contaminated spices should also be to be curbed with highest penalty and imprisonment so as to eradicate it. While is is necessary for this labeling, it is also necessary for the consumers to get this checked independently in case of doubt. more

Well, folks, today we are living in a "world of irregularities" in India. People have been let off with murder a wee bit tooooooo much. We need to show patience. Sins of seventy years cannot be wiped off in seventy days or seventy weeks, or seventy months.....may be in seventy years ! more

A few years ago, both USA and Europe banned import of India's crown fruit called the "alfonso mango". Reason was use of product for artificial ripening. Where's the harm in India implementing such checks ? more
