Improve Public Transport in Delhi
A pragmatic solution borrowing ideas from Hong Kong (HK) public transport system:
In HK, there is a single magnetic card (similar to our Delhi metro card, called 'Octopus' in HK) which can be used for all major common transactions such as Metro, Bus, Taxi, even for grocery, entertainment services etc.
Generalizing our metro card to be used for most of the other services will:
- Help commuters: no change-cash required, fast, easy
- Easier, faster, corruption-free money transactions, reduced fake notes
- Can also be used at tolls and all other public facilities to significantly reduce waiting time.
Since this is already a well known, proven, successful money transaction system, and apparently it does not require huge investment, I invite group members to suggest ideas - How can we have such a smart card system this in Delhi ? more

An even bigger advantage is generating additional funds for government. If implemented on full scale in NCR, the expected total public money tied in smart-cards will be over Rs. 1000 Crores (though it keeps fluctuating). Practically, it implies that Govt gets Rs. 1000 Crore money at 0 % interest for (practically) infinite time! So, investment in such a smart card system should not be a concern. In HK, having a single smart card, most people rarely go to ATM (compared to Indian case). In fact, many citizens in Hong Kong have their smart-card directly linked with their bank account. For example, if value in my smart-card falls below Rs. 200, my bank automatically transfers Rs. 1000 from my account to my smart-card (according to customer specified limits). more

Better to use singapore metrocard both for bus and metro Senior citizens concessional benefits are availble.But both government of Centre and state must provide concession in metro also.or keep check in bus and concession in bus more

To step towards a smart city, there cannot be multiple smart cards for multiple services. It will minimize the cash transactions, save time. All transactions will be on record. True the challenge of fake notes can be avoided as well. People carry multiple cards like ATM-Debit, Credit, Metro card and many more in their wallet. It is indeed a good move. No evasion of taxes for sure. more
