Improving Productivity/Reducing Corruption in Railways

Two areas where my government take initiative and work hard for improving productivity/reducing corruption -
1. How to stop black marketing when tatkal booking starts ie. at 10:00am, if you go online booking at 10:00am you find that within 5-10 minutes all seats booked which is more painful to customers who are needy. There is no plan of action how to stop it and give relief to customer so that they got their confirmed ticket. I am sure if best IAS/IPS Officer assigned the responsibility to inspect from Vigilance angle, certainly government found mafia involvement in it.
2.How to handle TTs in Train - It has been observed that in almost every train except few, TTs play a major role by distributing vacant seats to passengers where whosoever offer more money got seats. Passengers enjoying with the help of TTs even to use in 3AC. Its creates doubt in mind for TTs who are working honestly.
3.There is no check whether food served from the pantry in the train. Because contractor pleased the superintendent of the Train by offering best food and taken certificate from it that the quality of food is outstanding.
4.Regarding safety of passengers TTs responsible, why they are allowing passengers in reserved coach. No one taking care why passengers are using reserved coach services without getting their confirmed seats. It should be completely banned and issue instructions to TTs in this regard so that all passenger feel safe.
5.Even if you ask for complaint book, noone provide you except assurance.
Someone from the government focus and work on it for making railway best in the world so that every one feel proud. Without transparency and honest Minister/IAS/IPS officers who devote 100% time on it we are not able to got good result. more

The existing corruption in Railways is not at all any isolated or rare phenomenon in India. It is only a part of the overall corruption pervading & engulfing the entire society. Judged by the number of known & suspected scams, India is the most corrupt democracy on earth. Point out one single sector or department in India that is corruption-free, if u can! Which, in turn, implies that anyone wanting to annihilate the corruption in Railways must be prepared to fight the corruption in all the other spheres & departments as well, as all are inter-dependent & intimately inter-related. India has landed in this situation only due to the fact & truth that almost all our main politicians 1947-2014, via their innumerable wile & wanton acts of omissions & commissions, have actively/passively, knowingly/unknowingly aided & abetted corruption & graft. Hence, the immediate necessity to work out a scientifically correct, effective, holistic & proactive national agenda & action plan to combat the nationalized & widely popularized corruption & graft in India 1947-2014. However, it must be mentioned in this context that pinpointing corruption in each & every department & sector will certainly help to identify in detail the corruption within that particular department, say, the Railways. Nevertheless, while looking at an individual tree, let us not ignore or lose sight of the vast forest! more
makes one think about a more basic issue of why govt. should be running railways, banks or any company for that matter, especially in areas where payback period is not so long as to keep away the private sector or secrecy is required for defense related reasons. time, energy, capital better spent on long gestation agriculture/infrastructure/education/medical/old age social security. policy making, monitoring and enforcement can be done by the sovereign without owning any part of the business. listing railways will give the govt. money for priority areas, railways can raise money for expansion without govt. support, govt. can set policy to take care of public interest. over time the better serving railway will succeed, rail infrastructure may continue to be owned by the govt. for which trains pay for usage. sorry for going in a tangent, but please do give it a thought. more
1. If you are running one tenth of seats required, you get into this problem, obviously - Plug the demand and supply gap. 2. Same as in 1. 3. Simple, tighten the supervision; punish erring person; do more spotchecks. 4. Same in 3. 5. What if you write a complaint in the complaint book? Post your complaints on-line. So, ultimately, the user wants action on complaints and shall be attended to with a public notice, saying that it has been rectified. more
