Improving Voter List

The Election Commission of India should innovate to improve the preparation of voter list. In the recently concluded U.P. election I observed (Varanasi) that many names were removed/ marked untraceable/ or moved to some other place. These could not be located even though the persons had valid Voter I.D. cards issued in 2009 and in some cases even in 2012. They were informed that their names did not appear in any of the list and even on the website of the commission. In facgt during revision or checking of voter lists the persons given this responsibility do not visit the residence of the voter whose names they delete or show as untraceable.

I suggest that at least one amendment must be introduced :

- A person holding a voter I.D. card must be allowed to cast his/her vote even if his/her name does not exist in the voter list.

Further the Election Commission should open its website such that a voter who has a voter I.D. can correct his/her name, residential address, add email i.d. and enter AADHAR no. The website can use Voter No. as user i.d. and then ask for registration where further formalities like passwords etc. are created. There after the voter can edit his/her details. This will eliminate further need of verification and also eliminate many errors. AADHAR could be made mandatory for such voters registering on the website. more

I agree with H. P. Agarwal's suggestion that a person holding a voter I.D. card must be allowed to cast his/her vote even if his/her name does not exist in the voter list. People who have revised the Voters' list should be put in jail and punished. more
It is the job of the government and local authority to announce the voter list be kept at prominent places for verification at least one month prior to the election. The booth level officer must be present at the place to accept the complaint and send for necessary corrections. I am staying in my village after retirement for the last 5 years. so far no body came to house to enumeration work. I help my villagers to check whether their name is there or not in the voters list because they are uneducated. Yet times i get threaten calls from politicians belonging to neighboring villages questioning about my deed because local politicians respect me a lot and do not dare to question me. more
there are so many voters at preetam nagar allahabad ,up .their names are missing from voter list.pl do the needful. more
It is the responsibility of the Political Party representatives of each area to ensure checking of the Voters least. It may be mischief of the ruling party to deliberately remove the names of the known potential opposite part supporters . The voters should also be alert to ensure that their names are in the Voters least. If they are missing they can immediately initiate action for listing their names in the voter least.
