Income Tax Extortion
I am familiar with hundreds of cases of corruption where ITOs are basically saying we will issue orders unless and until you pay bribes.
Businesses who may have nothing wrong are also subjected to this gross harassment and extortion.
If the Govt was keen to eliminate corruption, it could easily create a circle for income tax or handle to report corrupt practices.
I dont think corruption has reduced in India, its gotten worse atleast on the tax front.
Appetite if bhook has risen and there are no checks and balances. more

I have a completely different story to narrate. I have till date not seen where my assessing ITO is, but recently I have got an IT refund advice and a subsequent refund of five digits directly into my bank account. more

Yes, my clients too have faced problems with the Income Tax, especially where they have to claim refunds. more

Combating corruption may involve various steps including the following: Empower the ACB Officials access to Record of Titles As an annual exercise, obtain details of potential beneficiaries of bribes (as also their kith and kin) who may include functionaries and their supporting staff like (a)Revenue Collection authorities, (b)Authorities awarding contracts of, or approving, investment or expenditure © Authorities allowing some benefit like promotion or transfer to a desired place Subject to investigation based on following the procedure described below with regard to expenditure incurred beyond what matches their legitimate income on occasions like weddings and their anniversaries, festival days, birthdays: Use Smartphone to take secret video of all incidents involving demanding and/or giving bribe, expenditure beyond the legitimate income, send the video for being recording directly into the computer of ACB Either manually or through use of software do a search of property registered in the names of the potential beneficiaries of bribes or their kith and kin, and launch investigation as to the source of funds fo tvalue Whether for the acquisition of the property the value paid for the purpose is equal or not the market value Increase he staff strength of ACBs suitably Make sure that the ACB officials are themselves not beneficiaries of corruption by (a) subjecting each of them to regular peer-level review, (b) stipulate a minimum number of investigations per month to be launched by them, © assigning a minimum number peer-level investigations to be carried out. more
