Authentic messages are on letterhead although it is an annexure. Now since, the exemption limit has been raised considerably, majority will be out of tax bracket. So no issues, but if previous year income and current year is mismatched, you may be sent a query for clarification. more

We have a saying in Tamil that he who does not have anything to hide will not fear (மடியில் கனமில்லை என்றால் வழியில் பயமில்லை). So, if you or other members of your family are in the clear, you have nothing to worry. Even if it is not a fake message, I am glad about this since many people living an extremely luxurious life submit nil returns as most of their dealings are still in cash. If you have any doubts, go to most of the shops in Parrys corner or Mount Road (sellling electronic wares) you will see, everyday each shop sells for lakhs of rupees and they refuse to take gpay, credit card etc. All dealings are in cash only. On top of that, we people claiming to be middle class want the Government to give everything free or give heavy subsidies. I was also laughing that I have not seen even one post appreciating for giving the 'middle class' exception upto 12 L Rupees. A small gesture of thanks - no, no, we know only to grumble endlessly and be morish. Wanting more and more for doing less and less. This is the state of patriotism in our country. more

The reason for fear even if one is not hiding anything is that it is pain to collect all these minute details and provide to tax department. Have you seen any family tracking expenses at this level through out year? I have not seen. There will be many expenses during the year, we may not be remembering. more
