Increase in duty we asked for

I see members complaining in this circle on why consumer goods have gotten expensive.

Our own circles report is saying more people are supporting increase of duty.

We should not ask for stuff and then point issues later. more

आयात पर बढ़े हुए कर का मै समर्थक हूँ - और बढ़ना चाहिए more
We still deal with trade barriers between various states besides import/ export duties. more
There is nothing wrong if custom duty is increased to protect domestic industry and if the local buyers' interest is protected. Also, there is nothing wrong if luxurious items are imported with higher custom duties. more
Yes,we have to remember that we have to support more local production at a little higher cost if we want more jobs and prosperity for our next generations. more
On import of duty free liquor and cigarettes, the number of people who buy and consume the same are a miniscule percentage of the population. They can afford it, therefore, reducing the allowance really does not make any difference, except possibly to the spurious liquor bottles. Now, as far as import of toys, plastics, furniture etc., from China is concerned, it is because we do not produce stuff of the quality offered at that price point. If Chinese goods imports are penalised by high duty, all that we will get here will be locally made substandard goods at a price point slightly cheaper than the Chinese stuff which are usually much superior. What we really need is to open up the economy, reduce duties on imports and taxes and encourage local manufacturers to compete with their Chinese counterparts on quality and price. I have been through the same mindset, many decades back when we said Japanese goods were substandard, then later, Korean stuff was inferior. But really, question is, have we improved? more
