Indian Customs - Clearance Corruption
Firstly I had a horrific experience in 2003 with the Delhi Customs after attempting to pick up unaccompanied baggage. After having to wait till the next day when the customs office opened and paying for a hotel room my nightmare began. The customs officers wanted that I pay duty on my personal belongings which I foolishly estimated a price at what it would cost me to purchase new. After viewing signage all over the warehouse saying that corruption would not be tolerated and viewing a brochure that stated that second hand goods are duty free and eventually meeting the Superintendent - who happened to be the name on the signage of who was the overall in charge I ended up being forced to pay half of what they estimated I should pay.
Now I have an item waiting in customs to be cleared, that I bought via Ebay India and low and behold there is a hold up... There is no contact information provided on any website, even the phone numbers and emails addresses do not work so the only option is to take a taxi to Delhi and meet these reprobates and go through their procedure designed to extort money of customers.
Customs is another area that requires investigation and a thorough clean up. more
