Indian Police Foundation Seminar on Cybercrime

Drawing up a strategic vision and an action plan for the Indian Police to deal with cyber crime :

20th May, 2016 (3 pm to 6 pm) Venue : Shaurya CRPF Institute, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi 110070

India is amongst the top 3 countries in the world with the highest number of internet users, but our preparedness to respond to cybercrime and online threats still remains in nascent stages, even as online crime, threats and vulnerabilities  continue to evolve and grow exponentially.

There is an urgent need to adopt nation-wide, collaborative and coordinated action, between the IT industry, the law enforcement, banking & financial institutions and the government, working together at the strategic level, exchanging expertise, best practices and lessons learned.
The proposed seminar brings together, top policy makers, police leaders, industry experts, academic scholars and thought leaders on the subject, providing an opportunity for the police and security leadership to evaluate their preparedness to deal with the looming threats and to evolve a national strategy and a roadmap, for the short, medium and long term. The discussions will focus on the new challenges and opportunities in leveraging of digital and mobile forensics tools, electronic evidence collection and prosecution, capacity building and empowering the police at the field levels in their roles as cyber crime first responders and investigators.

You are cordially invited to register for the seminar. There is no registration fees. For registration, please write to nramachandran@policefoundation.in

Is this meet only by person? Do you have options for online community to join? more
There is need to recruit qualified and trained man power to investigate cyber crimes. Presently, constable level officials who get promoted under quotas or time bound promotions, become investigating officers for all sorts of cases. The punishment under anti cyber laws should be increased and the conviction be done within 1 year max. Presently, the people do not fear the law enforcing agencies as due to corruption and lethargicness, the wrong doers are rarely convicted that too after decades. more
Do you really think that Indian police is up to the job? The public perception of police is pathetic. They are seen as handmaidens of criminals and politicians. They have no knowledge of even the most basic investigative techniques. Convictions if any are by forced confessions and framing of the people who have somehow annoyed them. About corruption, less said the better. So please take a deep look inwards, otherwise you have every chance of getting disconnected from the citizens you are supposed to be serving; and becoming irrelevant except to criminals and politicians. more
