Indian Railways vs Budget Airlines

Its an irony that Indian Railways are increasing fares day after day and its now in comparison to flights. Let me give you an example:

Its high time that middle class passengers have stopped travelling in Sleeper Class and moved to AC Classes. Due to limited availability of AC classes most of us are dependent on the Tatkal scheme.

Now lets do a quick comparison of train and flight fares between say Delhi and Mumbai.

Mumbai Rajdhani - Delhi to Mumbai IInd AC - 22nd Nov - Rs 2865 Including Tatkal Charges, Time taken - 17 hours

Indigo - Delhi to Mumbai - Economy - 22nd Nov - Rs 3409 Time taken - 2 hours

Which one would you take?

Well I would definitely choose flight instead of all the harrassment and the pain from Indian Railways.

Indian Railways should understand that if they are charging passangers an fare equivalent to flights they should give them the same service and comfort, else people would stop using them.

I know this post would be deleted soon, but if possible please see the reality and understand the frustration of Indian people. more

According to Railway who travel in 2nd Sleeper they are worst because travelling is my need . If Railway can provide all the facilities to only AC class than there is no need to have the 2nd sleeper coach in all the train. Railway should run only AC class train on all route. At present if we calculate all the problem, money and time than we will find that Railway is more expensive. more  
Railway should realise the ground reality. People have to book the ticket in advance before 120 days to be sure in getting a berth and in case of any exigencies they have to pay the penalty in the shape of cancellation charges. Instead there should be 10% discount on reservation before one month. Reservation charges should be minimum. Passengers should not feel panic for purchase of a ticket, if assured berths will be made available. more  
Railway ministry can think over suggestion if this feel suitable. more  
Dear Sir, For example I would like to suggest one place, similarly many other place where railway can impliment. In Gujarat a one narrow gauge line converted into broadgauge line. In converting railway ministry took more than ten(10) years. Since (20) years broad gauge line is being used with three compartment without toilet to and fro from NADIAD to MODASA(110)KMS. But in loss. Revenue can enhance by providing on each or some selected station a platform inbetween a two rail line. For revnue(Fund) can be generate by allowing local people to built a platform as per railway specification. By this way provide facility to senior citizens, ladies and school goin pupils and get revenue from this 110 KMS route. Similarly from others somany route revenue will be gerated. Thanks and regards. Doubling cancellation charges by claiming that touts will thus be discouraged is simply hogwash. Journeys have to be cancelled only in case of emergencies, where a person is unable to travel due to sickness or death or any other exigencies in the family. Now he has to book 4 months in advance to ensure a confirmed berth and then has to pay the penalty of shelling out double cancellation charges to face the emergency at home and the railway can re-sell that "cancelled" ticket to another passenger and get full fare from him/her as well. Isn't this a monopolistic practice of official extortion of money from travelling passengers???? more
