India’s big risk - Pollution worsens COVID19

The health damage inflicted on people by long-standing air pollution in cities is likely to increase the death rate from coronavirus infections, experts have said.
Dirty air is known to cause lung and heart damage and is responsible for at least 8m early deaths a year. This underlying health damage means respiratory infections, such as coronavirus, may well have a more serious impact on city dwellers and those exposed to toxic fumes, than on others.

Our Central and State Govt has to ensure that come Oct Nov covid19 doesnt cause havoc in India. It can if we dont control pm 2.5 and pm 10. more

I am really sad that instead of appreciating the gravity of situation we are all trying to run down each other by the type of comments I have seen. I would rather say we should all come together to force the Executive and Legislature to Act and start taking steps to reduce Pollution. We should individually write mails to Officers of Municipal Corporation or State Government wherever we come across instances where we see factors aggravating pollution be it traffic snarls due to vendors occupying roads(under patronage of Municipal Officers, Police and Local Politicians), Roads dug up and left like that, undisposed garbage, illegal construction encroachments, the list is endless....., follow it up proactively by filing RTI to know what action has been taken if we don't see results. Let us all work together to make the Government and Bureaucracy accountable. We need to spend some of our time and resources to tackle the problem. It is better late than never. I am not just saying this for sake of saying, I am myself spending time on these issues and in this era of digitalization it just takes a couple of minutes, I just spend half and hour a day on this and believe me I have started to see results. So I will request please share your concerns if you cannot take up the issue and I will take it up. We all need to work together and let us motivate each other to build a better tomorrow rather than ruminating over lost time and mistakes committed more
One should set and tell his/her own example before preaching other. more
One thing that we all can and must do: Stop everyone from burning garbage. If you smell smoke, look out to see where it is coming from. If you see anything burning, request the person who is burning - to douse the fire and counsel him not to repeat the act. more
It is very comfortable to sit in the armchair and say x, y and z should do something to control pollution. However, we fail to take into account our own carbon foot print. Excessive use of electricity, water, paper, other resources, fossil-fuel based vehicles etc. Let us first start practising. We can all directly contribute and indirectly by being an example when we practise all resources saving procedures. We often say Government should do this, that etc conveniently forgetting that WE are the Government. more
Indian citizens should be ware of this and fight pollution jointly. more
