Very True Seema, and surprisingly you'll find the entire window and EL seats are chargeable......it's terrible. What I do now is go little earlier and use the automated web check in counters at Airport....chances are there that you get some desired seats !! more

This mischief is across the board. Even if we complain to DGCA or any other authority they will get around by counter arguments. Even in international sector the same story can be seen. In a sellers market it will be difficult to appeal to better sense of justice. They are sitting there to make as much profit as is feasible. CFOs and boards will just put you down as part of the outliers in their stastistics. Best is not to opt for any choice seats! more

consider : should we have fixed fare with seat choice at time of booking. Surely the fare will be higher We have the choice to book in advance at lower fare with or without seat choice (Comparative seat cost is a fraction of total cost) or choose another airline offering better fare. All businesses operate on profits and only competition can keep prices low. Fight, if need be, for preventing cartels. more

That is market economy which we have copied from US. Market will close the stable only after the horse has bolted out of the stable. It is the price we pay for having employed Indian diaspora economists educated, worked in US and International Monetary organizations who will recommend discouraging the common man from saving, encourage industry to create wants, force the common man to splurge money by market created wants and leave nothing for needs. The economists will leave mid stream, citing personal needs, going back to academia and so on; write books and papers pontificating what India should do; after some time, after everything is forgotten in India, or with change in government, publish papers and reports how the previous government got the country to bankruptcy by not listening to them, get invited back to serve the country and this will go on in circles. The only way market can respond to customer unfriendly practices is by the customers boycotting the erring entity. This will take infinite time especially in India where we have buyers for products ranging from the best to worst cheating quality. Then we console ourselves philosophically- what can happen will happen. If government intervenes either way there are intellectuals and communists which will brand the government , file the much misused PIL, thanks to Venkatachaliah and go on. more
