Indoor Air Quality Standards needed

America and Euope have standards for Indoor Air Quality and we need our standards bureau to develop the same. I am not aware of such standards in India.
The indoor air is generally way more toxic than outdoor air. This is due to additional load of indoor air pollutants like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and radiation. Most indoor air pollutants are proven or suspected carcinogens. Indoor air pollution becomes even more critical in air-conditioned spaces as the limited ventilation and air change traps pollutants and builds up their concentration, increasing exposure and health hazard.
This is one of the reasons why America and Europe have stringent indoor air quality standards for their buildings as they are aware that even with cleaner air outside, their people can get really sick because of indoor air pollution, heightened by air conditioning. In India, we have no indoor air quality standards to start with. There it is recommended to open the windows for few hours daily to let the toxins out. more

Indoor air quality has to be country specific since in major part of our country we keep the windows open to let the air circulate which is not the case in major european or usa where normally theykeep the windows closed due to either cold season or variouns other reasons which is more local but it is good to start and see where we can reach it. more

Mr. Radha puriji, You must understand first the reason n necessity to form such standards In most of the cold countries the hoses have double glazed wndows. So there is no air circulation. Or cross ventilation ,except some exhausts in the kitchen. So most of the time same air gets trapped in the house. Whereas in our country we have houses with good ventilation, no double glazed windows.so we don't need any such standards. For indoor air quality. Except in cinema houses, theaters etc but still where ever there is centrally AC system there also a provision for taking fresh air n blowing out the inside air, that's how they maintain air circulation more

I have to put a sorry face to some who speak either way-california is supplying straight tap water to consumers at $1 for 10 liters at point of sale.The moment has picked up so much that people wants to use only good old methods. Better ask-search ingoogle. That siad-inernal air quality is what a cooler can control.It can filter only particles,unless water or moisture is added it will not work. That means small air filter-small air conditioner-that previously coolers were doing. Some companies are making money-they even show small stand fans in plastic container and says it filters. more
