Ineffective handling of COVID 19 by India

India reported the highest single-day spike of 24,850 new COVID19 cases and 613 deaths in the last 24 hours.

India’s First 9500 deaths happened in 92 days and Next 9500 deaths happened in 20 days.

I dont get what Govts like Karnataka will achieve with sunday lockdowns in bangalore or in MP with sat/sun lockdown.

India’s poor abilities to handle public health crisis coming to the fore with this pandemic. more

Mr.Sen, You are a genius. Please elaborate how you would have handled COVID-19 pandemic so that our elected/propped up government and the local administration follow your advise. I for one is very eager to learn the step by step activity to prevent spread of the virus and how to prevent. Highlighting a trauma is one way to get attention but suggesting a solution that is practically possible will get worldwide recognition.Being an Indian you will bring glory to the country..........I am listening. more

It is not India alone. Globally, Friday was the worst day ever with +209,028 new cases in a single day. All countries did few things right, and made some mistakes. In India, the Government put a lockdown fairly early, but people could have respected it much better. A parallel consideration to health and wellness, in all countries, has had to be the economy and once businesses/markets open up, cases would naturally rise. Another factor is that there is a lot more testing, so more cases come to light. But what you have not said is that, although India is overtaking Russia to be at No. 3 in number of cases - after the US and Brazil, the incidence of new cases in India is still one of the lowest in the world (489 cases per million of population while many developed countries have this figure in thousands) and even deaths/per million which is 14 (whereas those same other nations have it in hundreds). Let us spread hope and cheer, and be more alert and careful. This is more a challenge at the mind and spirit level, than just the challenge of a physical disease. More exercise, better hygiene, more physical distancing, more meditation and more prayers, with less fear and paranoia, can make a big difference! more

I entirely agree with Mr Dholakia. Citizens have also responsibility to wear face mask, social distancing and frequent hand washing. People must not go out unnecessarily. Persons who have to work must follow all prescribed precautions. more
agree with your comments , i believe they did not apply their brains with respect to timing of lockdown and extent of lockdown, also they suggested for common man responsibilities and duties and completely forget that they have some function to perform in the period of lockdown. it was just WHO brain copied in toto...... it is same as if they go in groups for europe tour to study indian culture . more
Satendar Ji we must have faith in our system and our administration. They are doing there best. It is we who are not following the directions and guidelines. Lockdown should not necessarily be enforced only but may be voluntary also. Yesterday at a Momos store in a local market I saw about 50 people standing outside the small shop to carry home momos least concerned about Covid 19. Who is at fault? more
