Information about blood thinners

The blood thinner are prescribed to keep clots from forming in your heart or blood vessels to help prevent a heart attack and stroke. But because these drugs make it hard for you to stop bleeding, a minor injury can turn serious.
If you are taking blood thinners like aspirin or other drugs, please follow following precautions:
- Avoid contact sports and other activities where you're likely to get hurt. Walk, swim, or do other, safer exercises instead. Don't forget about your head!
-Sometimes blood thinners might cause:
Bleeding gums, Bruises ,Dizziness and Red or dark brown urine or stools. Keep watch on these symptoms
- Keep Handy a stash of bandages and dressings at home. Always carry some with you, in case you get a cut. Special powder can stop a bleed quickly and keep it under control until you're able to get medical help.
- Watch Your Vitamin K, Too much can make a common blood thinner called warfarin (Coumadin) less effective. And Brussels sprouts, lettuce, and spinach have a lot of vitamin K. Watch intake of these foods aren't off limits when you take blood thinners, more

Unregulated use of blood thinners some times cause eyes to become blood shot red! My father was put on blood thinners and one day he suddenly developed a very red eye. We immediately took him to an eye hospital and the doctors there reduced the quantum of the blood thinner and the eyes became normal in a couple of days. Later the cardiologist too confirmed the revised dosage of the blood thinner. So those on blood thinners should get a regular check up with their concerned doctors and also keep a close observation of the symptoms mentioned by Brij ji. more
