Inputs needed on Hygiene, Sanitation and Civic Issues

Dear Friends:

Thank you everyone for your invaluable contributions in this circle.

While we are still working on the subject of Customer Service Improvement in Government offices, we are starting a parallel discussion on one of the other immediate priorities for Government identified by you.

Please give your inputs on all the issues relating to Hygiene, Sanitation and Civic Sense in India.

The focus here is to list what are all the issues, followed by identification of root causes (separate post) and then identify solutions (separate post) that we can take to the Modi Government to implement.

Our mission has to be such that 5 years from now when we have reduced garbage on streets, have more public toilets and our citizens have greater civic sense.

Thank you for your participation.

Hygiene, Sanitation and Civic Sense = "A BIG ZERO" that s all. what is hygiene and where it start? Right you get up from your bed in the morning while you brush your tooth it starts . My question is are you using mineral water to goggle your mouth . Do you mean to say that after goggling the mouth you spit out the waste water . The question is the water remain in your mouth after spitting will not go in to your stomach? ok next while taking bath in a swimming pool or tank or river or pond or sea do you mean to say water does not enter your mouth? and one do not sallow that remains? NEXT while in a hotel the water used for cooking or cleaning the spoon plate etc the remains in the spoon or plate or vessel are mineral waters and or the fruits you eat with skin are clean and harvested and from the tree or plant with out touching the ground or people with unhygienic hand do not touch and come to market and come home visit a market and see how they are handled then you will know under stand the level of unhygienic. BEST eg. is Tender coconut- how many of us drink the water using the straw provided by the vendor are sure they are new.Not only that the worst part is - after drinking the water in side and the vendor cut open and give us the tender coconut and a spoon cut part of the outer sheeth removed part of the same coconut and we use that as a spoon thinking that "our hands are dirty" DO you all know that that coconut was lying on that road and may be a dog shit or cow dung or a birds excreta could be on that . IMAGINE THE HYGIENE WHERE WE ARE HEADING . In india people play politics on village side two tumbler system as "UN-TOUCHABILITY" and doing politics but today the developed countries the level of UN-TOUCHABILITY is with in the family and they have spread the same across the GLOBE by way of "USE AND THROW CUP OR PLATE" with in the family itself so is it not some thing serious that "UN-TOUCHABILIY WITH IN THE FAMILY" more
The amount which is given to improve the sanitation is 10% of the people's real expense so the village people unable to satisfy the government policy. more
instead of providing the medicines to get immunity government has to take steps to lower the vegetable rates by increasing the production and lowering its rates. more
- Lack of fear of reprisal for dumping garbage is the main issue - Unfortunately respect of self, neighbour and country does not exist. That might come later. - Officers from municipality are not keeping garbage free streets in their jurisdiction. Their is no sense of duty or desire to do their job. There is no fear of reprimand either. - Building owners and apartment management should be punished or fines levied if garbage is dumped or drains are blocked by them. - Nallas are used as dumping ground by industries and slums etc. All should be fined and the same should be closed. - All drains flowing into lakes and nallas should be closed. - All nallas should be covered and should be converted to parks or green areas. For. e.g as done in Chennai - More areas should be converted to parks and green ways. - Public toilets should have water and drainage system in place - Schools should have working toilets with water and drainage - Schools should not be allowed to use toilets as storage rooms more
