I agree with Ranjit Biswas points. Solid/Wet waste collection authorities should work towards well planed and systematic way. Each and every citizen also should equally held responsible for maintaining the cleanliness. I have seen well educated morning walkers throwing their daily garbage in road side. People who have pets is another story. This become their regular practice since no one bothers to talk to them because of their foul language. Unless there is strong rules and regulations for authorities and citizens nothing improves. more
Waste management has become of problem for every country. There should be proper mechanism for recycle the products, but the industrial waste emitting is directly thrown to canal, river and goes to sea. The pollution control authorities have little control over the industries or they are keeping their eyes closed. more
Our local body people do not use their common sense while making arrangements for transportation of solid waste. Win the result: 1) Solid waste is transported in decade old vehicles with broken& open bodies; 2) Such vehicles are over loaded and are plied through main roads of the city dropping such wastes through out its ways to their disposal grounds making the roads & the city more dirty with little botheration of the concerned authorities; 3) While such vehicles full with waste pass through the streets, the entire area and the surroundings become heavily polluted because of emitting unbearable foul smell and flying dust & waste; 4) The work is done in most careless way and the spots where from the waste is lifted isd never cleaned in real sense leaving at least 20% to 25% of the waste scattered all around. There is no one to supervise their works; 5) The concerned workers are most arrogant and never listen to any one and ever show any respect for any one & anything; 6) The attitude of the people of the local bodies and the concerned government departments is such as if they are doing any favour to the citizens forgetting that they are the paid servants of the ciyizens. more
With my little knowledge, I like to write as follows: Waste generated in the cities that has to be transported away can be bifurcated in to five types such as Wet, Dry, Glass, Metal and Plastic. I feel, as a non technical person, Wet can be used in Bio fuel/Manure industries, which must be allowed in the private sector with some kind of incentives, so that the number of trucks moved also gets a count for payment of transportation charges. similarly, Dry, Glass, Metal and plastic must be transported to the respective industries/dealers, in the private sector as stated above, meant to use such waste/scrap as raw material. By following this method of bifurcation and transportation, the waste gets utilised in the respective industries and also such industries will have the track of the number of trucks received. By following this kind of bifurcation, utilising industries with some incentives, the misuse/abnormal claims in the transportation of such waste can be minimised. Concerned Profesionals in the field may be able to advice better on the subject in similar lines. more
Mr. Jayashankar Narayanan, if the roads last long, how the contractors survive? It is high time that the people bring pressures on the governing bodies including state and Central Governments so that the decisions which help improve ecology and health standards should be implemented without vested interests. Similarly the parliamentarians should be forced by the public to enact laws which are in the national interest. They should be forced to put up their views against the bills and debate and put up to vote if needed. Important laws should not be passed by voice vote. more
