Integrating Swachh Bharat into School Education

Dear all:

Below are some of the key inputs on how Swachh Bharat can be integrated into School Education.

Kindly review them and if you have any additional views, please share.

We will then put together a checklist and share with Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Education) as well as States so this message can reach to as many school administrators/principals in India.

We are certain this will drive long term change in cleanliness in India.

We look forward to your inputs!
Ministry of Urban Development

How to integrate Swachh Bharat into School Education

1. Schools can be suggested to conduct events related to Swachh Bharat, like competitions (essay writing, painting, skits, cleanliness activities etc.)
2. Children should be asked to make projects on the Swachh Bharat initiative
3. Education department should include a chapter on cleanliness best practices (keeping our surrounding clean) in moral science subject
4. Each classroom should have dustbins and students of each classroom should be taught to throw papers etc. only in dustbins
5. Schools should reward children demonstrating cleanliness practices in their behaviour
6. Students should be asked to present to their teacher, a cleanliness act carried by them in their house, society etc. in the form of project, play etc.
7. Senior students should be encouraged to run awareness session in their respective societies, colonies where they stay
8. Case studies of such acts by students should be published in school magazines and should be publicly appreciated to motivate other students to join the race
9. Swachh Bharat principles can be implemented in primary school curriculums in the form of stories and lessons so that the kids imbibe them in a fun way
10. There can be occasional practicals, wherein students and teachers must clean their class rooms, school premises and, if possible, other public places. A few marks/grades can also be given for such practical
11. For each class, there could be a cleanliness period once a week, where they could go around cleaning the school more

Hello every one, Syed here, Very valuable suggestions,Views, opinoins from different personalities. I personally observed that the students syllabus itself, and its understanding and the pressure of their home works, class works, projects and extra curricular activities, the differentiation/partiality of the teachers between dull, average good and distinction students. A lot of mental pressure and agony is being faced by the students from both sides from parents and school. They are being crushed in between. So is it fare to put another burden of awareness or cleanliness or any thing else on them. I question all the members who have commented on this post justify it. The EDUCATION DEPARTMENT IS SLEEPING AND HOW MANY OTHER MINISTRIES OR DEPARTMENTS ARE SLEEPING. NEED IS TO AWAKE THEM FIRST. A SIMPLE CURRICULUM SHOULD BE DESIGNED WHERE THE MENTAL ABILITIES OF THE STUDENTS SHOULD GROW WITH OUT STRESS. I THINK THE WHOLE LIFE IS THERE TO FACE THE STRESS AND STRAIN. WE ARE THE DESTROYERS OF OUR OWN NATION'S ASSETS WHICH ARE BEING DEPRECIATED BEFORE ITS ACQUISITION. more
Children getting into the habit from start so that they are also able to teach their parents thereby changing their habits will go a long way in the Cleanliness drive more
Very good thought. Good habits, discipline n character formation must start at young age n school level is the right place to start with. Also it can be done collectively. more
The subject is sensitive and should be taken seriously with professional manner. The responsibility is not for someone/some section or some class. It is a duty of every citizen to follow the basic civic sense to maintain & live in the society. A course should be designed and be published in all language, to be mandatory from primary school to higher education about 'Community Social Responsibility (CSR)' for DO & Don't do more
Can we adopt Japan on this ? School children clean their complex including wash rooms daily after school hours irrespective of child status. more
