Iphone new MRPs

Sharing with all in case you find prices on ecommerce sites overstated.

Mr. Virmani - petition to stop charging of tax above mrp is a great idea. See my post from last month below:

I reported on Aug 23rd list of all brands that are charging GST on MRP when there is a discount. Here we are on Jan 14th and the list of companies below and many more are still doing it. Why has the MRP department not been taking action? Why are the MRP officials in every state not raiding these companies stores who are misleading consumers with 50% discount but in reality only giving 38%.
If the consumer minister and the prime minister are serious about consumer rights, then actions must be taken on the basis of consumer reports.

Brands charging GST on discounted MRP:
Myntra
Jabong
Lifestyle
Shoppers Stop
Woodland
Puma
Pantaloons
Central
First cry
Brand Factory

What is being done by they GST implementation squad. ??? more
Another point I would like to share with the author is because on my consistent efforts with Govt. of Haryana, I got Ritu Wears penalised for their unfair business and they have given an undertaking not to charge tax on discounted MRP. Recently I have taken up complaint of Home Saaz, Faridabad with Govt of Haryana, the notice for which is underway. If members can share their bills of Home Saaz, I would like to ensure that the company faces penal action. Woodland has already stopped charging tax on such sales discounted prices. I have already discussed with the Local Circle Members to provide a feature in their website to enable members to upload complaints and copies of their bills in an easy manner as the members do not have time to raise such issues being of pretty small value. My point is a drop of water by 125 crore people of this country can create an ocean of unfair business to such a proportion to make it uncontrollable at a later date if not checked now. more
I would like to state that the companies have not started charging tax on discounted sale price not from the recent past but from 2014 onwards and in fact sales on discounts has become an attractive proposition for the best reasons known to the traders. I have been drawing the attention of the Govt as well as public from 2014 onwards. One of my blog with search on skvirmani+ jago grahak can be pursued. I have been getting refunds from some of the traders but many of them are yet to respond. State Commission in 2015 came out with a judgment stating this practice as unfair trade practices and most of the points of judgments were fortunately matching with the points raised by me in my article in the above blog as well as points brought out to the attention of Govt of India. National Commission upheld the decision of State Commission. I thought of filing a PIL in the National Commission or the State Commission and requested on public domains to share with me the copies of their complaints so as to make it a class action suit. Unfortunately I di not have positive response from the members and hence class action suit could not be filed. I am still interested in filing the same and that is the reason I am putting in my best efforts to create an awareness. Meanwhile, I am also trying to dig out information as to why these companies are adapting to such unfair trade practices. Few members in this community are representing the retailers and hence are demotivating the members. In fact I would rather appeal to those members from the retailers community to assist me in digging the requisite information. They need to be loyal to the professionalism of an honest business not the unfair business. more

A few issues like this one where ecommerce marketing (selling) companies are charging prices on the basis of MRP + GST/CGST (the sales tax) are so important that the Department of Consumer Affairs in GoI, Director Legal Metrology, must take up on priority basis to avoid fleecing by the ecommerce companies. Till such time that the issue of MRP is settled, let there be an order that mandates these e-commerce companies like Apple, Amazon, Flipcart, etc. announce in their cash memo that the GST/CGST is being charged on the base price i.e. ex-works/factory or ex-wholesale dealers outlet. more
no expectation from any department more
