IRCTC Retiring Rooms for Incredible India Tourism

There are many places in India be it cities, towns and villages which are of tourism importance. Over the years, we all wish to visit these places with our families to educate the current and future generation about our country’s vast and varied culture. The experience of visiting these places should be cheerful, exhilarating and very memorable leading to a lasting impression in our minds for posterity.
In this regard, the most convenient and economical mode of transport is Indian Railways to explore these places and under the Incredible India campaign, this would lead to a boost in Indian tourism. The next critical area is Food and Accommodation. Food namely Breakfast, Lunch, Tiffin, Dinner etc should be available at all stations at reasonable rates for the benefit of all passengers.
Accommodation should be comfortable, hygienic (especially toilets) and reasonable where IRCTC Retiring rooms are the best bet. The IRCTC Retiring rooms are very good at some stations. However, the only major hitch is that the Check-in and Check-out time is fixed at 8.00 a.m. or 8.00 p.m. irrespective of the train arrival/departure time. This leads to inconvenience as the passengers have to wait till such time to occupy the rooms which are actually vacant at that time or alternatively they have to shell out extra money for booking for the previous 12 hours even when they are travelling in the train and have not reached the destination.
With the Online booking of IRCTC Retiring rooms based on PNR no. it will be great if the Check-in and Check-out time is based on the expected train timings arrival or departure as the case may be. In case there is a delay in the arrival/departure of the train (upto 3 hours), the room reservation will be intact and will not be cancelled and will be applicable from that revised time onwards.
In case of reschedule of trains due to unforeseen circumstances (more than 3 hours) , the Room reservation should not be cancelled and the passenger should be given an option to extend the reservation without any additional charges albeit for the same period already booked. To cite an example, last year in November 2015 due to heavy rains at Gudur and Chennai many of the trains were rescheduled indiscriminately deeply inconveniencing the passengers. Thos e who had booked IRCTC Retiring rooms had to vacate the same after the stipulated time and no extension was given even though the room was vacant.
With the change in the Check-in and Check-out time at IRCTC retiring rooms based on the train arrival/departure as per the PNR, there will be a dramatic increase in passengers booking IRCTC Reservation rooms and this will lead to a good revenue increase for the Railways.
We request the Indian Railways to do the needful immediately on priority. more

My experience of Retiring Rooms: I feel these RR are only for the privileged people like Rly staff etc. Most often than not, I could get one RR. I am a most travelled senior citizen all over India, that too, mostly by Indian Railways. Besides, the Matrons or Incharge for these Railway Retiring Rooms, don't even have courtesy in helping needy passengers to get a RR. Very pathetic. Whereas, a Railway employee/staff or a senior officer would easily get one. This has been my personal experience. more
IRCTC Rooms at Many Jn Stations are not Sufficient as per todays needs more Rooms required at all Tourism oriented Destination Stations On 7 Sep 2016 07:55, "Vaidya Nathan" wrote: > more
Vaidya Nathan is lucky enough to have good retiring rooms at Uijain and Nanded. I find the answer is no vacancy at Bangalore and Mysore for Retiring room. will any railway authority to increase the no. of rooms specially where tourists have interest. more
I agree that Railways may arrange on line booking of retiring rooms (both AC & non-AC)with better maintenance and security & publicize the names of such rooms. It will definitely be overbooked and may have waiting list as the railway tickets. Comments of Mr Neogi is not so relevant as maitaining clean toilet in trains is more difficult than maintaining stationary retiring rooms. more
