IRCTC selling data of Indians is not acceptable

Railways says soon our data
Will be monetised by the govt. & that too, in the absence of a data protection legislation! IRCTC has uploaded a tender to appoint a consultant for digital data monetisation and it is attached.

The stated objective behind this move is to generate revenue for the IRCTC, approximately up to INR 1000 crores. The consultant will be expected to study the data of Passenger, Freight & Parcel business as well as any vendor-related data from applications of Indian Railways

Per the tender, customer data to be studied includes, inter alia, 'Name, Age, Mobile No., Gender, address, E-Mail ID, No. of Passenger, Class of Journey, Payment Mode, Login/Password,' in addition to behavioural data such as payment & booking mode, frequency of journey, etc

Please oppose this friends or soon all your info will be in the hands of hundreds of real estate agents, credit and debit card wallas, path labs and the amount of spam u will get will be 10X more

why are you spreading fake news, when nothing has been confirmed ? more
I think this is not acceptable. Who is IRCTC to sell our personal data and make money out of it? more
Selling consumers' data with businesses has become common practice globally. One impractical way to reduce such exposure it is to spend using just cash, have no bank accounts, do not make advance travel reservations, don't use cellphone, etc. etc. One other way is to legislate data-selling such as defining what is Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and what PII businesses can sell. In Digital world your data is never secure or sacred. Recently I was traveling in an Autorickshaw and he was very friendly. So I asked for his Number so that I could call him. But then I realised I didn’t have my phone. So he gave a missed call to my number. I was surprised when his screen showed my name as USA…….. He said he subscribes to Truecaller and that is how my name and number appears. So there is no Privacy any more in the Digital World. Google, Facebook etc track you and tailor the advertisement based on your use of the phone or website. Your phone number and data in mined and sold. So IRCTC is no exception. That is why sometimes I give my landline number so that they can not text me. more
Phone No. and its origin is one aspect. But IRCTC entrusting data to another entity has much wider implications. IRCTC data not only contains individuals UIdAI(Aadhar) particulars, which can be extracted to obtain your Bank particulars, Particulars of all Movable and Immovable Assets ( Bank A/cs, Mutual Funds, Shares, etc,), and therefrom even your purchase details - even for potatoes, onions, etc., - if purchased through any e-commerce merchant.) . more
