IRCTC website

There was a recent survey by localcircles on the IRCTC website. 64% of the respondents said the current site was bad. One of the reasons is that more than 3/4ths of all the screens are covered by advertisements, making it difficult to seek the relevant train information that one wants.
Also, in the new user registration, it asks for a lot of personal details - DOB, occupation, married or not, residential address, office address etc. All these are mandatory fields. Probably, this is also a way of making money by selling the details to marketing firms. more

Except the address, name and age all other details of the person booking the tickets are not necessary for booking the tickets. I agree with you that, it is one way of collecting personal details by the government agency. This should be objected by one and all across the nation. more
i agree with you. the quality has gone down instead of improving. cutting cost by efficient and innovative functioning is better than earning few bucks from advertisements. more
Suggestions made by Ranjit Biswas are worth considering. Earlier version for online booking was quite user friendly. New version may be updated with necessary changes required by general public so make it in real sense 'User friendly'. more
This is another instance that the government departments are full of incompetent people. the earlier version for online booking was quite user friendly. Only information required to be added were displaying of the details of the available berths prior to final booking and effecting payment. These information are most important, as in majority of the cases, such berths are being allotted to senior citizens, female and physically handicapped passengers, which are most inconvenient and inaccessible to them. Therefore, a demand for displaying these information prior to effecting payment for the tickets was in place since long. The new version even does not include this facility and in the name of making it more user friendly, the bunch of incompetent officers parked in the railways top posts have made it most unfriendly, not less than 80% of which contains advertisements. Its a shame for Indian railways, which was once being known as the nation's pride. Will the railways ministry look into this and replace it with a simple, latest and most user friendly version having all the important information including displaying the details of the available berths prior to final booking. Hopefully, common sense will now prevail in all concern including the minister of railways. more
why should railways ask all these details. name age sexaddress/ email ids phone no is more than sufficient more
