Irregularities in local body meetings
Local body members, councillor, president have given more power. Since they have to get in touch with the people, conduct meetings with people, inform the govt schemes to people directly, make people aware of good practices, etc. Everything defined in book ideally.
Actually what happens
1)A ward member was elected in local body election. According to his statement he spent Rs.8,00,000/- to win the election. He sold his ancestor property and managed this.
2)He tried to recover this amount at the time of his tenure as ward member by some means of projects allocated within his control; Wherever his signature is needed for getting any government approved scheme, he involved in bribe. But he could not succeed in this. Because he is not belong to any party. He was elected as individual candidate.
Our Constitution of India itself recognises party system to exist, participate in election, govern the government system of India. Who has to control these irregularities. The election commission. But in India election commission is not so powerful. Because rules and regulations stipulated to them are again goes to Parliament where again it is controlled by PARTIES. Above all these God is more powerful to save India. more

Sanjoy that is an "ideal situation". The point is to raise the issue and not leave it till it is resolved. Sh. Modi or Sh. Fadnavis can alone not change the system till we demand from such corporator, local body members, ward members etc. to deliver .....unless we all are not joining hands and raising not just issues but getting it resolved our country shall keep "chugging" along on the development chart. more

In modern time election is a big business. Unfortunately in this business only society's left over are interested due to the fact that he knows winning an election means making money. Since he doesn't have any clue about the meaning of public representative his mind only works how to make money. There is no point criticizing them because non of the society's best fill this post and since the post is vacant some one have to fill it up. Therefore the larger question is society's best mind shall start filling these post and leave no room for the scraps. If this happens society will automatically cleanse. more

The main reason for the failure of Democracy is that we are all divided, though we are staying in metropolitan cities. Still caste makes a difference to an highly educated person, due his cheap thinking. So all of us are staying as "ADI MANAV" in various gangs from different places of our country. Wherever there are differences, opportunists always used " Divide and Rule" policy, including Mughals, British, Portuguese , French. Contesting election should not be expensive, if Government will sponsor the canvasing material to the candidate. If any additional expenses found, the candidate should be banned for life time. After electing a candidate by people, at least 50% of amount should be deducted from the salary of the elected candidate. If found guilty during his tenure, no pension should be granted, because its public's money. more
