IT department's new game?

I had been filing my Income Tax returns regularly and was getting the refund credited to my HDFC bank account directly, each year, till last year.

Suddenly, this year, the same bank account has become in-accessible to the Income Tax department, which has asked me to re-confirm it by sending a filled up form with attachment, through postal mail.

It is just not possible that the HDFC bank account in which the refund was getting credited year after year, has suddenly become in-accessible only to the Income Tax department.

Is this some kind of new game some people from the department are trying to play with the IT accesses? more

Make sure that the mail is not some spam! more
I had a similar experience 2 years back. It turned out because I had changed my residence address with the bank but it remained the same in IT dept. So data was not tallying. Please check if the same details are there in Bank A/c and I.T. Return. It might help more
When the I.T. dept. request for confirmation of account no. and do not follow the digital mode and sending physical refund orders there must be a reason for it. It may be revealed shortly as from November only people are getting their assessment order and refund. Let us wait for the reason. more
Yes, now new fraudulent email received by people and if any one provides them the details if Bank account than they withdraw the money. Be alter before giving details more
yes fraudulent mails and phone calls are rampant now a days one has to be very careful before divulging any personal financial information to third parties. more
Yes, very true. From this year, IT deptt is sending Physical refund orders instead of NEFT/ECS transfer in the Bank a/c duly disclosed while filing IT return. On one hand, we are talking of DIGITAL India & on this issue, IT deptt is going back to a decade old system. more
