It is now necessary to make it a state policy to stop giving extensions to civil servants after their age of retirement. Similarly it must be made a policy that no Government servant can hold an office of profit, including appointment on committees, inquiry commissions etc. after demitting office. This will ensure that no civil servant will play with rules to please his political master at the time of his retirement by taking blatant partisan decisions. Another thing that must stop is constant revision of pay which is almost like a bribe under garb of Pay commissions, especially for the class I and above officers. The dearness allowance that is linked to price index should also revised downwards when the index goes southwards. Pruning the bloated workforce on Government payrolls also needs to be pruned posthaste, if our economy is to revive soon. more
