J&j baby powder info from Patanjali

People of Patanjali are saying that Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has to pay $4.69 billion to 22 women who alleged that the company’s talc-based products, including its baby powder, contain asbestos and caused them to develop ovarian cancer.

If there is truth to this who in India has to ensure that consumer is aware and such unsafe products are removed from market.

If patanjali is using this to promote their products and take potshots at j&j they should be checked upon as well.

J&J and HUL have many products that are quite toxic in nature. and most of the cosmetic products used by women also have harmful substances which are probably causing various types of cancer, but no research is being done into it, so we will never know. more
I feel that Patanjali will not make such statement unless it is true. If the statement made by Patanjali is false, Johnson & Johnson would have sued them defamation for substantial sum. more
The allegation is true. pl read below a writeup In.April 2018, Johnson and Johnson lost a case that cost them $117 Million, when a man convinced a judge that their baby powder resulted in his asbestos-related cancer. Johnson and Johnson deny their baby powder has ever contained asbestos and is appealing the verdict. Asbestos denial is a common theme among talc companies, which all claim their cosmetic-grade talc does not contain asbestos. Baby powder is typically applied by shaking talc powder directly onto a baby’s bottom and then rubbing it in. This shaking allows the powder’s particles to become airborne, while direct application to sensitive areas of the baby’s body may also cause health impacts. If asbestos-containing baby powder is used for diaper rash, anyone in a contained room where that baby powder is routinely dispersed may be at risk of asbestos exposure. While scientists debate whether pure talc is a harmful substance when inhaled, there is no doubt that asbestos is deadly. Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that is caused by the accidental inhalation of microscopic asbestos fibers. When asbestos becomes airborne, this inhalation can occur from simple natural breathing. Trapped fibers can trigger mutations in the surrounding cells. Cellular mutation is a slow but dangerous transformation, as healthy cells turn into cancerous mesothelioma cells. It’s the nature of mesothelioma cancer cells to spread throughout the body to distant organs. Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer and nearly impossible to detect until it is in the late stages. By then, the cancer cells are hard to destroy, resulting in a high fatality rate for victims of the disease. M.R.Krishnan more
You are 100% right, Ms. Shikha. But I am sure as it happens in so many other instances, this also will be forgotten and no one will take any responsibility whatsoever, even to say the issue is true or otherwise. more
I agree....this must be in India..otherwise we are not developed country more
Well Shikha the allegation is true . It is also good that a powerful entrepreneur with good support all over India has taken up the issue . But have they set their house right . We all are aware of the rejection by the Army for their supplies for sub standard quality . I am not sure which product but am sure this was also reported in the circle . Their brand of Honey 1kg costing Rs, 260/ . I bought and presented to one who is a regular pure honey taker . After a week he phones and tells me that it was honey alright but not pure honey . Pure organic honey costs 1 KG is Rs. 975/ and it come in glass bottles . This comes in Plastic containers . It is another commercial venture under the Umbrella of Yogi Baba Ramdev . Some one should appraise him of this fact . This is just one of the so many products . more
Who will bell the cat? Is Ministry of health checking & revising medicine/ drug / cosmetics standards? Also Ministry of Consumer Protection should act to frame new rules to protect Indians from MNC abuses. more
