In another round of countrywide crackdown on corrupt bureaucrats which began on Monday, income tax officials searched residence of an additional sales tax commissioner of UP, Keshav Lal, at his Sector 34 residence in Noida and recovered more than Rs 10 crore in cash and 10 kg gold. A top official of the Central Board of Direct Taxes told TOI that the government is serious about removing corruption from the bureaucracy whether at the Centre or in states and more such coordinated raids across the country are expected in the coming days.
Having conducted a search operation against a local body chairman in UP's Siddharthnagar district, officials are estimating his assets to be more than Rs 10 crore.
