Know how to identify carbide ripened banana

Vendors across India are ripening Banana by dipping it in carbide water or if modern and in a box through ethepon sachets.

How can you tell if a banana is “Chemically Ripened” by looking at It? (See attached pic)

If the bananas have a combination of green stalks and brown spots it's indicative of carbide/chemical ripening, while black stalks indicate a naturally ripened banana.

This carbide/chemical ripened banana is cancerous and by giving to children you are making a mistake.

Do share this with all loved ones. We cant depend on pathetic and corrupt administrators to protect our food. Most of them turn blind eye and food inspector collects for the whole chain. more

In order to identify the chemically rippened fruits though, it is not practical, testing to identifying the difference is. Dip the fruit in water, if floats the fruit is genuine and fruit settles down, it is chemically rippened. Incasenof bananas, while opening from corrugated box, if one feel, the banana stalk and whole banana is hot, it is calcium carbide treated. How to trust a vendor because no choice left either to buy or not? more
Can't we stop this life risking practices by the vendors ? Our laws should be much stricter then it is at present. When 90% or more vendors are engaged in such malpractices fearlessly and without considering the risk involved to the lives of the consumers because of the chemicals, the consumers have little option but to opt for such poisonous fruits knowingly at times. more
I fully agree to the concerns expressed by Ms Naina Mittalji. In fact when we are buying the so called 'good bananas' as shown in the photograph, we find the same problem. They get ripened in a day and most of the part (on an average, more than 70%) is overripened & soft, which can't be eaten. So we are paying full price for only 30%, that too many times the full banana is so overripened (but appearing greenish yellow from outside) & soft that everything has to be thrown as trash! I believe this problem is everywhere in India, but people (except a few) don't seem to be concerned! Recently we have switched over to a much better option (though costly!) of 'Elaichi' or small kelas, where this problem is not here. more
Any kind of safety education is required at the school level more
Nice info. Bppl though aware tend to gloss over such serious matters.👍 more
