Poverty and middlemen are very cruel . All these people will come back, if they don't get minimum earnings in their states, middlemen will cheat them again . If few days notice was given before lock down, may be things would have been better. Like one nation one ration card if there is ONE NATION ONE VOTER CARD which enable them to vote where ever they are, will definitely improve the conditions. more
Migrant workers are also humans - They have sentiment to go home after Covid 19 Problem - They should be consoled - Allowed to go home and by counselling you can ask them to come back more
While the labour problem in the metro cities may increase in the coming times, there is an opportunity for the State Governments to remove those tribals who are living on the footpaths, parks, under the flyovers, railway sidings, unauthorisedly on encroachment and illegal constructions to be moved back to their States or at least to place of belongings. The Railways must not charge such migrants, but keep with them their IDs and desire the States to which they actually belong to pay up and arrange for their livelihood. In any future migration of such people in search of livelihood elsewhere outside their State, such communities must carry with them the ID cards and the addresses of the place moving to. more
This is only the case of Migrant workers . They flock to cities from their Home states where welfare measures, free bees are not sufficient . But the states whwere the welfare measures are too good like free rice , subsidized provisions , Fesival Bakshish twice a year the local unskilled workers tend to become lazy and dont go foe dail wage earning . They push their women folk to work to be domestic workers and live on them . The very same flock to the Dharu shops . In Tamimilnadu more of people from the unorganized sector flock to the booze shops . So if these states need contract workers the states and the Entrepreneuers will have to seek from within the state and may have to pay a higher wage or hire on the Salary basis . The whole idea of Migrant workers' wages were left the Contractors to avoid the salary based payment and Union formation . Look at the Big unionized establish ments Government as well as Private , wage increase and constant demand for benefits. Lets wait and se where this will lead . The locals who are deprived of the jobs are the educated ones and the Central Government jobs, like Railways , Postal , Income Tax Dept. and so on . more
While Covid-19 has made our life miserable in Cities and towns, it has also given some opportunities to make life slightly better than before. Most of the workers who have gone back to their homes after getting a taste of city life and getting work experience may like to take up work in/near their respective homes. This is the time when the State Govt. should encourage rural industries (Cottage or otherwise) and support self employment in rural and other areas. Now we are better of with electricity, roads, communication etc. than what we had say 5 years back. Similarly clean rivers and environment that we have now are what we expect, it should be maintained. more
