Lack of disaster preparedness - Floods
Friends this is Ajay Kumar from Patna currently overseas. Our nation badly badly needs proper policies and action plan on disaster preparedness. I want each one of you to see these attached images of floods from my hometown Patna (could be your hometown tomorrow)
The NDMA the NDRF the Bihar Govt have all failed to address this and till proper rules are made funds are deployed, emergency systems in place, we are living on hoping our town and neighborhood doesnt get this.

Actually Patna and areas/regions near Kosi river can be developed on the model of Venice. As far as politics and politicians are concerned, where the Dy. CM : Sushil Modi needs to be rescued...imagine the plight of the people under mis-governance. Actually people are paying for their fault of voting such corrupt people to power. more

Bihar is the State Swindled the Funds of Cattle Feed during 90-92 at large. Its allied Congress set the case running till end of 2013 . i.e., 20 long years. Many States are Sailing in the same Boat decades together misusing Government Funds on One Side and neglecting People's Mandates of Constitution on the Other side. All State Governments are the root cause of the effects of Water whether Excessive or drained. They allowed Swallow of Government Lands AND Lands of Water Tanks, Ponds, Streams, Canals AND EVEN DRAINS decades together AND IS THE ROOT CAUSE. THIS MUST BE STOPPED . more

In a democracy, the electorate gets the persons they voted for in majority. If you vote for clowns, do not expect intelligent governance. Bihar is a typical example where people vote enmass on caste-basis. Then suffer. Why blame the present government whom you voted to power? Floods in Bihar is not a new phenomenon. more

Several areas in the country are prone to disaster of one kind or other and Patna or Bihar is not the only ones affected. There is no doubt there should be a long term disaster relief and mitigation plan. To some extent Orissa has done it fairly well and other states have to follow. The recent massive change in climatic conditions, alternating between drought and unusually heavy rainfall has played havoc in many states including Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Orissa and many other northern states. The effort required is massive and it will take lot of time and concerted effort on the part of Central and state governments with people's involvement to find a viable solution to the problem. There is no short cuts and short term solution. more
