Layoff Bloodbath in Media industry

Terrible reports coming in of sackings without exit packages, journos being asked to go on leave without pay to wrapping up of some editions & desks altogether from across newsrooms in India. Salary cuts to fight out crises times are understandable but sudden layoffs are cruel!

This bloodbath is in a sector that is functional. It will turn into a torrent when lockdown ends and other sectors take stock.

Times of India Sunday, Indian Express, Business Standard, Outlook Magazine, Hindustan Times, News Nation and the list goes on and on. more

Most of the media is spoiled and Managements misused them all through. Private Journalists keep Give Cooked up stories - There is not even one Good Journalist who is not biased. If they correct themselves People will Certainly care for them. Media is absolutely Corrupt. more
One wonders when the Media themselves would report of such sad developments under their own roof !! more
Sad but way out to be found out. This is temporary phase, general public will switch to hard copy again instead of digital one. Ad income will be generated in a phases as before COVID 19 breakout. more
Not sure why the media industry in particular is sacking its employees? Times are bad, but the journalists and the reporters have made all efforts to bring news from all over the world. The PM has asked the employers in his speech today not to sack employees. In the UK, the government has vowed to fund up to 80% of an employee's salary in this difficult period. Working from home is a good alternative to make the employees productive. If India is careful it will overcome the crisis better, and if the restrictions are not followed as per the plans, the losses would be huge. We are a populated country with a greater percentage of the population still unprotected from the vagaries of the nature. Let all of us fight the menace together and help the media industry in protecting the interest of its employees. more
