LC’s impact is commendable

Seems like supreme court has announced a pan India fire cracker ban today after LocalCircles survey yesterday went viral saying that 1 in 3 Delhi NCR families will be burning crackers this Diwali. See attached and link

I dont agree personally with sc opinion and feel only haryana UP Punjab and Delhi should have the ban. Why take diwali fireworks away from those in gujarat or telangana?

But whats worth highlighting is that a LocalCircles survey can even get judiciary to action.

I wish more of us participated often in raising issues than just responding to polls. more

Do we really know the resons for increase in pollution? While crackers do add to the problem, are we doing anything to address the bigger causes? more
SC wrong here. SC decouple crackers from pollution. Energy the primary cause of pollution. Diesel cars still abound. No engagement seen of SC with cars. Sectorally, they are responsible. Unfortunate. Use S.E.E.D. formula, encompassing Sector-Coupling Approach, Energy-System Transitions, Equity, and Decarbonization. more
Enforce cracker ban once - 1 season only! Ban stubble burning once - 1 season. Then if pollution still persists - control experiment, judiciarily act on diesel cars. more
The problem of bad air quality is because of increase in usage of air conditioning, increase in usage of fueled cars etc. The ban on crackers is not going to help much. There should be other steps taken too. more

Rain stepped in! Delhi NCR's Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram, different government, also make Delhi a 'gas chamber'. Responsibility should be theirs too. Can't escalate it to Delhi only. Not the first time Delhi has had to rely meterological conditons to escape a highly polluted spell. more
