Leakage in Railway Ticketing - Key Issues
1. Passengers travel without tickets and bribe the TTE
2. Agents book the tickets in advance and sell in black
3. Tickets are booked on common names and then sold later
4. People travel on someone else’s ticket
5. There is a nexus of porters/agents-reservation counter employees at stations than can get you confirmed tickets while the general passenger experiences high waiting list
6. No shows are misused by TTE to make money
7. Railway passes are misused and used repeatedly without making entry in many cases
8. VIP quota is misused by friends/family/staff/relatives
9. VIPs travel with their fanfare and their staff frequently travels without tickets
10. Passenger identification is not asked for while booking tickets outside tatkal
11. Some people block tickets and when they get the preferred seats later, cancel the booking, creating an artificial shortage more

Install CCTV cameras on all offices where public dealing takes places and even in important trains specially in those trains where mallpractices are more. more

As there is toooo much rush while booking ticket online or offline it is better to not have each passenger have a ID proof to book ticket as this gets to confusing for not to tech savvy passenger and most of them even do not know or dont have ID card at the time of booking. Rather verification in trains can be done better. Make a official to provide un occupied reserved berth to passengers for no shows so as it becomes offical TTE cannot make money from bribe rather person who comes and reaches on time can avail the offer on first come first servre basis preferring senior citizens and women first. more
