Line crossing on railllway tracks.
Anyone will agree that it is cumbersome for a passenger or hawker or porter to climb about 50 to 60 steps of the foot overbridge and go to other platform. Hence they try to cross the lines. It will go a long way to encourage the use of bridge, if ramps are provided instead of steps to climb, passengers having bags with wheels can take them easily. The necessity of engaging porters, (costly and arrogant), will be minimised. The manner in which subways are provided at Bandra Terminus Station, in Mumbai and many local stations in Navi Mumbai, is welcome. Even in subways ramps must provided instead of steps. more

Railways should learn from the DMRC how to keep the platforms clean and also how to manage people movement across the stations and platforms. I have never seen any one crossing the track on any of the metro stations including the oldest on Kolkata. more

It is agreed fully. first is to identify the reasons behind the problem. 1. last minute change in platform no. 2. senior and persons with disability. 3. trafic jams near the stations causing delay in ariving at station 4. No escalators/lifts at staions. even where available most of the time they are not operating.(I have personally experienced several times) porters are not deciplined and demand any amount depending on your condition. staff at station is of little help 5. provide free tolleys at railway staions like at the airports. 6. ramps should be provided to use the trolleys. trains platforms should not be changed at the last minute. more

I agree fully. Many time I have suggested that all the overhwad bridges of railway should be converted to ramp type, where ever possible ramp type underpasses should be constructed. Escalators is no solution because Railway can not mentain them more
